Philippines President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr will undertake his first official visit to India from August 4 to 8 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the five-day visit, Marcos will engage in high-level talks with top Indian leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi, as both nations mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.
Upon his arrival in New Delhi on August 4, President Marcos will meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. On August 5, he is scheduled to pay tribute at Rajghat before holding bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House. The meeting will be followed by the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and press statements.
Later in the day, Marcos will meet Union Health Minister JP Nadda and call on President Droupadi Murmu.
The Philippines President will then travel to Bengaluru, where he is set to meet Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this visit highlights the growing strategic partnership between India and the Philippines. Both countries enjoy strong cooperation in trade, defence, maritime security, healthcare, digital technologies, and cultural exchanges. The visit also aligns with India’s ‘Act East’ Policy and Indo-Pacific vision, underlining the importance of regional partnerships like ASEAN.
The MEA emphasized that this state visit offers both countries an opportunity to chart a new roadmap for deeper bilateral collaboration and regional engagement.
